analyzes the complexity of convergence journalism education from the two dimensions of journalism theory and technology, so as to explore the
innovative path of convergence journalism education. The paper holds that from the theoretical dimension, the convergence journalism education
is confronted with the challenges of the convergence journalism phenomenon and practice to the traditional journalism theory, the adaptation of
the convergence journalism education to the Marxist journalism, and the construction of the convergence journalism paradigm on the basis of the
traditional journalism. From the point of technology dimensions, the complexity of journalism education embodied in the macro level of complex
network environment , the medium of level of interweaving between the curriculum system and interconnection technology, and the micro level
of practice courses such as news interview, writing, editing and publishing relying on Internet technology. Therefore, it is necessary to explore
the innovative path of convergence journalism education, we should form systematic thinking in the complex process of convergence journalism
education, establish the “dual logic” in education to keep the tension between the elements of convergence journalism education, and embody the
process of integrated journalism education and activates the vitality of collaborative development between courses.
It is clearly pointed out in the Opinions of Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee on Improving the Training Ability of Journalism and Communication Talents in Colleges and Universities and Implementing the Education and Training Plan 2.0 for Excellent Journalism Talents released by the Ministry of Education in 2018, which main idea is cultivating and training a large number of high-quality, all-media and expert-type news talents with national feelings and international vision. In the same year, The National Standards for the Teaching Quality of Undergraduate Majors in Regular Institutions of Higher Learning, defined the knowledge system and core courses of journalism, the convergence journalism course was added [1]. Then convergence journalism has become a new practice in the process of media convergence, convergence journalism and education also emerge in such media ecology, which construct the knowledge system of journalism education.
In recent years, the research on convergence journalism education has become a hot topic in China, which mainly focuses on the curriculum reform, personnel training, educational objectives, practical teaching, knowledge system reconstruction and educational ideas of convergence journalism education. From the three dimensions of education, convergence journalism and Internet, convergence journalism education is facing the educational reform brought about by the complex Internet system, which is a complex educational practice different from traditional journalism education. Complexity theory argues that society is a complex system, in terms of integrated journalism education, its educational content, method, purpose and environment are complicated, So the paper analyzes the complexity problems of the convergence journalism education, which are related to convergence journalism theory and technical logic to explores the innovative path of the convergence journalism education under the complexity perspective.
Complexity became a theory in the 1980s. It is generally believed that complexity arises from nonlinearity, uncertainty and instability, ontological complexity means that things have many complicated
components, while epistemological complexity means that things are difficult to understand and deal with, in summary, “complexity” refers to the quality or state of being “complex”. According to Edgar Moran, “Complex things cannot be summed up in a few key words, or reduced to a rule, or reduced to a simple idea [1]. “The expression and state of complexity is uncertainty, which is interwoven; the connotation of complexity is the regularity and richness contained in things [2]. Therefore, complexity research is to make a clear distinction with the traditional and simplified way of thinking and understand things with complexity thinking. In essence, complexity science is a revolutionary movement of the way of thinking, its research object is the complex system, which has the characteristics of nonlinear, dynamic, adaptive, chaotic, feedback and emergence [3]. As far as convergence journalism education is concerned, which whole process is complex, with nonlinear and uncertain characteristics, and these characteristics affect the cognitive mode of education practitioners and the teaching mode, and also have an important impact on the construction of the knowledge system of the education object, Therefore, to explore the essence of convergence journalism education from the perspective of complexity is to change our way of thinking about journalism education. The research of pedagogy in our country is deeply influenced by the complexity theory [4]. There are many achievements in the basic theory of education; research methods, curriculum and moral education [5]. There are many researches on higher education in particular, such as ideological and political research, historical evolution of university organization,teacher role, classroom management, curriculum teaching and subject construction. Complexity theory is of great significance to educational research, so it has theoretical significance to integrate journalistic education [6-10]. However, there are few studies on the analysis of journalism with complexity theory in our country, so this study has some practical significance.
The Internet with “connection” as its evolution logic has changed the whole communication environment structurally, the digital media based on Internet technology connects multiple physical, social and psychological factors, which is a complex system. Convergence journalism and its education are formed in this complex system, so its internal and external environment is complex [11]. Therefore, convergence journalism education must be promoted with a complex attitude and way of thinking, it is feasible to analyze convergence journalism education from the perspective of complexity.
First, from the perspective of education itself, higher education is composed of a variety of interlinked subsystems, which interact with each other and are in a complex non-linear relationship network. As a kind of professional journalism education, convergence journalism education is a complex system and practical activity, which is influenced by many factors such as teachers, students, teaching process, theory construction, technology implementation and practice, the relationship between these factors is nonlinear, and there are many uncertainties affecting the education process, Therefore, it is feasible and reasonable to analyze the integrated journalism education from the perspective of complexity [12].
Second, from the perspective of the internal teaching content of convergence journalism education, the elements of convergence journalism arerelated to the journalism theory and practical knowledge system in the media convergence ecology comparing with traditional journalism, which is embodied in the theoretical and practical knowledge of convergence journalism production, dissemination and operation on the level of news text. These elements are undergoing structural changes, which means that the convergence journalism and its education with these elements as the research object and teaching content is in a complicated state. Theory has complexity, which is embodied in the theoretical history, research object, type division and standard determination.From the perspective of the theory development, the historical development of the theory of convergence journalism contains a unique logic, which is reflected in the process from single to complex, from low to high, thus realizing the meaning transformation and accumulation of convergence journalism education.
Viewed from the system construction of convergence journalism, convergence journalism includes macro level industry convergence, convergence journalism, technology convergence, media convergence and other series, medium level of media convergence, channel convergence, department convergence and other series,micro level convergence news, convergence report, convergence editing series, the content involved is complex and systematic, which is a great challenge to the traditional journalism education [13].
Third, from the perspective of the relationship between the convergence journalism education and the Internet, the convergence journalism education is developed in such a complex network context, and its theory and practice are directly affected by the Internet technology. The Internet-based digital platform is the key in the process of media convergence, and it is also the technical problem of convergence journalism education. The Internet connects “people, machines and things”, thus realizing comprehensive data integration and processing in cyberspace, physical space and social space. Achieving convergence journalism from making (AI anchor, robot writing, choice of content and actors, etc.), integration (intelligent media cloud, intelligent reuse and integration, data mining and analysis, etc.), transfer (software and hardware facilities, intelligent routing and intelligence resource scheduling, etc.), distribution (intelligent edge, intelligent recommendation, intelligent distributed cloud, etc.) to receive (intelligent receiving, intelligent operating system Intelligent terminal) industrial chain, which make the whole link from static to dynamic. So the production, distribution and reception of convergence news products based on internet technology is a complex industrial chain, and each link cannot completely rely on the linear thinking of traditional media , but should establish complex nonlinear thinking [14].
From the perspective of educational complexity and the internal and external environment of convergence journalism education, it is feasible and applicable to use complexity theory to analyze convergence journalism education.Since the prominent problem of convergence journalism education in the internet environment are convergence journalism theory and network technology, the study tries to analyze the theoretical complexity and technical complexity of convergence journalism, which are convergence journalism education confronted.
If we understand the education of integrated journalism from the perspective of complexity, the first problem we face is the applicability of traditional journalism theory and integrated journalism. Convergence journalism education is in the process of media convergence, and the concept, thinking, teaching relationship and news production process of convergence journalism haveundergone great changes compared with traditional journalism. The Internet-based convergence journalism means that the news structure has undergone great changes. Taking the definition of news as an example, there exists the rerecognition and re-definition of the definition of news. Research on the definition of news evolves with the changes of media ecology and social environment. For example, there are different understandings on the definition of the nature of news from the perspectives of class, ideology, disciplinary background, academic perspective, media environment and media technology. Therefore, the understanding of the definition of news itself is characterized by complexity. In the Internet environment, the change of the role of the news spread and recipients and the development of communication technologies are more obvious in the influence of definition of news, news reports in the process of media convergence elements as subject, news value, the audience has changed, we need to analysis and understanding, the convergence journalism to create its discourse system has a certain reference and inspiration. The fact is that in the era of intelligence, the time and space of news production has broken through the time and space reality of traditional news production, time is calculated in seconds or even shorter [15]. The different means and forms of news presentation and the appearance of news patterns have an impact on people’s understanding of the real world, and even on people’s behavior and psychology. Therefore, media practitioners and scholars have redefined and thought about the definition of news. Therefore, compared with traditional journalism education, the news theory of convergence journalism education should form a news theoretical system to adapt the current media environment on the basis of traditional journalism, which at least includes the concept, knowledge and discourse system of convergence journalism. At the same time, new problems encountered by traditional news theories in the new media environment should be discussed, such as news authenticity in the post-truth era, news function in the new media environment, changes in news values in the digital age, changes in news public opinion brought by changes in media environment, etc, Those question should be the theoretical foundation of fusion journalism, all be worth discussing in-depth. On the one hand, it is necessary to construct the theoretical system of convergence journalism, and on the other hand, it is necessary to deeply study the new problems encountered by traditional news theory, which also reflects the complexity of convergence journalism education.
Marxist journalism theory is the soul and guiding ideology of convergence journalism education. Convergence journalism education needs to form the understanding and theory of convergence journalism with Marxist viewpoints and methods, so as to enrich the Marxist journalism theory of “What is news? What is the essence of news? “and form a theoretical system of convergence journalism. In terms of current journalistic practice, the Internet has shaped a new journalistic communication ecology, which has brought about structural changes in journalistic activities, Such as interactive resulting in the changes of news transmission, hyperlinks making the structure of news text diversity, the convergence of various media elements making news narrative differently from the traditional narrative, all of these are journalism education facing the reality of the problem, and to expand the development of the Marxist concept of news which has a practical basis and theoretical motivation. Marxist news view is not only diachronic, but also current, that is, it is the result of the cognition and interpretation of the current news activities and the practice of social development under the specific context, perspective and position, Therefore, the Marxist journalism theory has practical guiding significance to the convergence journalism practice, theory and education.
Further speaking, some new problems involved in the education of convergence journalism , such as convergence journalism theory, convergence journalism practice, convergence journalism production and circulation, should be brought into the scope of its investigation and research, so as to make the theory of convergence become an important part and continuation of the Marxist view of news. In the course of convergence journalism education, we should take Marxism journalism concept as the red line through the whole process and make it clear that the principle of Party character in the process of media convergence is the basic principle of our current news and public opinion work.
At the same time, the research of convergence journalism theory should be guided by Marxist news view and expand the theoretical boundary and discourse system of convergence journalism theory. Marxist journalism concept has the characteristics of times, practice and openness. The convergence journalism and its education can reflect the characteristics of Marxist journalism concept and become the real expression and concrete practice of Marxist journalism concept in the process of knowledge evolution in the field of news communication. Convergence journalism is the product of the Internet and new media. The problem it faces is that the professionalized news theory of traditional news can no longer fully explain the news phenomenon and news practice under the new media environment. Therefore, it is necessary to change the research paradigm and educational concept and practice of convergence journalism, to explore the new context of convergence journalism, to study the reality of the media industry, to adapt to the needs of the current comprehensive journalism education, which conform to the theory of Marxist journalism theory. Those are to explain the contemporary Chinese news phenomenon with theories and to solve the practical problems in the field of Chinese news under the guidance of practical concepts. Convergence journalism is based on the great changes in China’s current news media practice, facing the deep transformation of Chinese journalism, the research on the main problems encountered in China’s news field not only reflects the complexity of convergence journalism and its education, but also injects vivid practice and fresh reality into the Marxist view of journalism.
As mentioned above, the Internet, digital technology and intelligent technology have challenged the traditional news theories. The convergence journalism, which is brought about by the new communication phenomenon, needs to face the new facts, new phenomena and new ways of news activities to form new concepts, knowledge, discourse and theoretical systems and transform the research paradigm. The research paradigm is on the basis of traditional journalism and is the sublation of traditional journalism, and at the same time it extends the research object to the new news phenomenon and news activities generated through the Internet [16].
The Internet revolution has brought about fundamental changes in journalism activities, the basic elements of journalism activities, and the deep relationship between journalism and society, which prompts the traditional journalism to transform its discipline paradigm, and the new discipline paradigm, is the fusion journalism paradigm. When the old paradigm still exists, and the new paradigm system has not been formed, which makes the convergence journalism education become more complex, on the one hand, the new paradigm is not on a patchwork of the old paradigm, on the other hand, we should establish the new paradigm in internet-based news activity, news phenomenon, social relations, form different from traditional journalism discipline paradigm. Convergence news should be a new news culture and a new news practice which production is a new process reengineering and authority reconstruction. The text and meaning of news production are in a fluid state, which has shaken the traditional news concept and requires journalism theory to make its own personality to respond to the new industry situation [17].

The Internet connects human beings together. therefore, the establishment of the paradigm of integrated journalism should not be limited to the professional journalism activities of traditional journalism, but should focus on the “relationship between people and news” as its general issue to explore the relationship between news and human development on the macro level and the relationship between news and micro-society on the micro level, Therefore, the traditional journalism based on professional journalism is combined with the current socialized and media-oriented journalism, thus forming systematic convergence journalism. Presumably, this should be the logical starting point and gist of establishing the paradigm of integrated journalism [18].
A series of Internet-based technologies such as Internet technology, new media, big data, machine writing and artificial intelligence constitute an important part of our understanding of convergence journalism education. [20] Faced with the complex digital environment, the role of teachers has changed from the imparting of knowledge to the designer of learning content, learning process and learning environment. Students who have grown up in a digital environment have long lived in an online world and are used to learning through experience and engagement, rather than passively listening and reading. For convergence journalism education, these problems should be caused by the complexity of the external educational environment brought by digitalization.
The media convergence of the media industry is the media environment in which the education of convergence journalism is located, this external environment is the media ecology shaped by the Internet and digital. Digital technology is the core technology that the media industry depends on for survival. Mobile Internet, cloud computing, intelligent technology, VR/AR, virtual reality, block chain and other technologies have been widely used in the media field, driven by these technologies, subversive changes have taken place from media practice to media management, In such media convergence environment, the journalism education must be based on the reality of the digital of media ecology, thinking the Internet technology as an important factor in journalism education of the whole system to think convergence journalism education concept, orientation, development planning, course construction, talent cultivation, teaching methods and other issues [21].
For the convergence journalism education which is based on media convergence, its curriculum system construction is interwoven with Internet technology, and the curriculum system of integrated journalism should also be built with Internet technology as its logical starting point. To explore the innovative path of convergence journalism education, we should establish systematic thinking in the complex convergence journalism education, “System thinking is the way of thinking that regards the object of thinking as a system to identify things and think about things [29]. ”The specific expression is to look at everything from the system point of view, to understand and deal with the problem from the whole, to grasp the internal and external regularities of the system, to look at the system as process ,evolutionary ,dynamic and nonlinear point of view, etc., [30].

It is also necessary to consider the effect of external environment on the convergence journalism education. Only by recognizing the connection and function between various elements can we understand the whole picture of the integrated journalism education; Also, it is necessary to analyze the relationship between the various elements of convergence journalism education, such as the theory of convergence journalism, network technology, training objectives, curriculum system, teaching practice and so on, and examine each element in the whole.
To establish systematic thinking, it is necessary to view the convergence journalism education from a dynamic view, rather than a static, once and for all education model.” Change” is a prominent feature of journalism and journalism education. In the integrated journalism education, we should pay attention to the integration of the external stimulus and interference of the news education system and the internal disharmonious factors in its own development, so as to reflect the adaptability of the integrated journalism education. How can this adaptability be achieved? From the perspective of the whole convergence journalism education system, it should have certain planning,purpose and creativity, and have the ability and function of adjusting and changing itself. In terms of the current situation of the convergence journalism education system, the teaching plan and purpose from national top-level design to classroom teaching should reflect the planning and purpose of the system, and on this basis, the innovation of integrated journalism education needs continuous learning, for example, the education subject should understand the changes of the new media environment; Learn and understand the Marxist news outlook and news theory, and form a problem consciousness; It is necessary to constantly learn new subject contents, so as to realize theoretical complementarity, practical interaction and course sharing among majors; to be familiar with the new requirements of new media technology for news theory and practice of journalism; to master the multimedia communication and modern media technology; to understand the importance of humanities education in the digital age; Only through continuous learning can we ensure the overall vitality of convergence journalism, so as to enhance the self-adjustment and mutual adaptation of the internal mechanism and function of the education system [31].
Complexity theory uses dual logic to solve binary problems and contradictions. “Dual logic” refers to the unification of two logics or two principles without losing their own inherent duality and difference. This required both sides of contradiction to maintain reasonable tension difference and opposition in their symbiosis, and at the same time not to ignore the mutual connection, complement and perfection of both sides of contradiction while maintaining mutually exclusive tension and opposition.
There exists the problem of binary opposites and contradictions in convergence journalism education. We should grasp the contradiction of binary opposites and observe the identity, coexistence and relevance of contradictions keenly, without putting aside the difference, opposites and exclusivity of contradictions, and regard convergence journalism education as a system with “double logic” in different dimensions of this system. In the previous analysis of the complexity of convergence journalism theory, the similarities and differences between traditional news theory and convergence journalism theory have been explained, and the adaptability between Marxist journalism concept, convergence journalism theory has also been analyzed, which reflects a dimension of dual logic in convergence journalism education. In the convergence journalism education, there are some problems, such as the adaptation and deviation of Internet technology and curriculum means, the compatibility and exclusion between courses, the equivalence or mismatch between teachers’ ability and students’ needs, the adaptation and difference between media environment and educational means, and the conflict and correlation between the long-term planning and short-term goals of convergence journalism education, This requires us to adopt a dual logic approach to the problem of binary contradiction, which is not a black and white approach, not a simple superposition of differences and opposing elements, It is to fully grasp the realistic rationality and limitations of the diachronic and coexisting elements in the education of convergence journalism in the inclusive and transcending differences and oppositions, to reflect the dynamic connection between the elements, to maintain the sensitivity to the differences and oppositions between the binary contradictions, and not to exclude the coexistence of the two [32].
The world is a dynamic process of continuous development, so we must adhere to a process thinking.
